I am a americana outlaw steam punk artist currently on my 14 album currently based in austin tx. reviews on live performance. when i opened up for the recounters (jack white) http://dailybruin.ucla.edu/stories/2006/jun/12/online-exclusive-concert-revie/ Among them were singer/songwriter Izzy Cox and members from Rose’s Pawn Shop, who are part of the L.A. rockabilly scene. In addition to several dusty ballads, they performed a stellar version of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” before clearing the stage. reviews on live show http://flanfire.blogspot.com/search?q=izzy+cox Izzy Cox -- "Love Letters from the Electric Chair I have absolutely no intention of describing Izzy's songs -- words cannot express .... and you really should just go see her sometime. Okay -- I will explain that "Lyin' Eyes, Cheatin' Heart" is a show shuffle with very sparse instrumentation (she hardly needs anything else but herself), and that "Man of the Cloth" (the final cut of 14 here) opens with some killer dobro here she says she is not going to heaven -- after all, she shot her husband square in her front lawn. This, too, is basically a stipped down, slow ballad. Did I mention that this woman is truly special? review on last album album 2008 http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/review?oid=oid%3A653904 Love Letters From the Electric Chair Austin's got no shortage of bands with a taste for the macabre, so welcome murder balladeer Izzy Cox to the hot seat. She's Texan and French-Canadian via California, a confluence that shapes Love Letters' electrified voodoo-billy with a Crampsy twist of Southern cabaret and silent-movie panache. It's the anti-book of love, 50 ways to grieve your lover. review on live show http://mannygocrazy.blogspot.com/2009/01/free-week-in-austin-texas-beerland.html The first act was Izzy Cox. According to her Myspace page, Izzy “is an anarchist crooner….she has coined the style Voodoobilly Jazz as her own”. Izzy hails from Austin, Texas, Hollywood, California, Brooklyn, New York and Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She also has an interesting background but I’ll let you read it on Myspace, at this time izzycox.com is coming soon. I like Izzy’s combination rockabilly, western swing, murder ballad style. She sings her heart out and with a lot of emotion and has a commanding stage presence. I felt that each song was a story and she wanted me to feel her pain, joy, happiness and sorrow. Tonight Izzy and her guitar, accompanied by Megan Harris on trumpet from Waco, Texas, were the band. Wow, two powerful women. Izzy is a must see performance and will be in the Austin area until March. I bought Izzy Cox’s Love Letters From The Electric Chair CD and my favorite tunes were: Devil, Devil; Belle Gunness; Man Of The Clothe; and not on CD, Fucking and Fighting and Bad Bad Woman. videos..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0gbbXa9JSk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WfnDoiVb7k older bio Izzy Cox ........is an anarchist crooner she has coined the style Voodoobilly Jazz as her own; Influenced by old movie soundtracks, Old time bar room blues and country singers. Her lyrics are like diary entries.. Stories of serial killers, buckaroo cowboys, snake handlers and sports of nature . ************** She had a unusual childhood, for the formative years of her life she would live part of her years in rural texas, and then in french canadian montreal. Throughout her moving around she was part of a religious organization where she played in marching bands. At the age of twelve she found the traveling bug, she lived and worked in horse racing tracks, traveled with circuses and took part of many early punk rock mosh pits.. *************** All by the age of sixteen.. At sixteen she released her first two tape track recordings.. while she was locked up in young juvenile delinquent Institutions. And has never turned back.. Till she was 27 years she was involved with a leading and progressive musical movement in montreal putting out 10 records and playing 4-6 night a week... and her peers consisted of ..Godspeed! you black.., Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Arcade of fire, The Dears, The unicorns, the stars, ashtray hearts ..basically the top 20 of independent music today.. *************** After a 15 year career in the East Coast She caught a Greyhound to Hollywood California... ************* At a backyard vegan barbeque hootenanny in silverlake, she met guitar player Billy Pitman, who, up to that time had played with pretty much everybody he would want to (Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, Janis Martin, Gatemouth Brown, LouAnn Barton, Billy Gibbons, Brian from KIX, Rev. Horton Heat, Eric Clapton, and the list goes on)except for Izzy after seeing her solo set. **************** and has opened up for and counts among her peers Hank 3, Joe buck,Bob Wayne, Southern Culture on the skids, Wayne Hancock, Jr Brown,Jack White, Candye Kane, Big Sandy and the Fly Rite boys,Devil Doll and Soda and his million piece band,The Jim Rose Circus, and counts among her fans Todd the Surfer, Quentin Tarantino, Gene Autry and Rick Rubin who apparently dug her stripped down sound from live appearances on college radio stations. **************** She has dedicated her life to touring & playing music & writing songs about her experiences...now she resides in Austin ,Texas and would like to play your musical venue, house party, death march etc.... And here as a few words from Izzy Cox..
